Southern swamps, Long Island wetlands,
Northern Ice, rain forests, the River
Li in China, An Underwater series ( based
on underwater photos I took around the
Virgin Islands) an ongoing Fire Series,
a Plantation Ghost Series (based on the
decaying and troubling plantations on
the islands in the Caribbean), are some
of the places in the world that have been
inspirations for my work.
Photographs, sketches and small paintings
are done on location. Back in the studio,
larger works, including 12 foot diptychs,
paintings in acrylic, watercolor, drawing
mediums, three dimensional aluminum screens,
and mixed media prints (based on my photographs
and created on the computer) are developed
from the essentials of the nature experiences.
A
series of “Inner Landscapes”
which (for the first time in years) are
not specifically place oriented have developed
into the “Fleurs du Mal” series,
which brings together the images of swamps
I have visited and the distillation of
how these experiences have worked on me.
In all my work, it is our biological and
spiritual connection to nature that I
am addressing.
