When I travel, I keep a book for each trip, making drawings and
notes in my search for the essence of the experience. So I have
done in Bali.
Bali has continued to fascinate me. At the moment (2004-5) the entrances
to the temples are particularly important visually to me, as is
Kayanon, the leaf-like shape in the shadow puppet show. I noticed
that if Kayanon is split down the middle it becomes an entrance,
temple-like with all its Balinese associations which include the
holy mountain, all of nature, and the entrance to “home”.
